How do I add tracking to my Shopify store?

What you'll need:

  • Shopify Admin Access
  • AdCritter Account Access

Steps 1: Login to your Shopify account as an Admin and navigate to:
SALES CHANNELS > Online Store > Themes

Step 2: Your live theme appears at the top of the page.

Click on the Actions button and then choose Edit Code.

Step 3: In the Left-hand menu, you will see a column with the folder structure of your selected theme.

Click on the item {/} theme.liquid in the Layout folder.

This will display the code that needs to be edited.

Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of the code window to find the end.

At the end of this code, look for what is called the closing body element. You will see it as: </body>. (Shown as line 131 in this screenshot).

As soon as you find this, you will save your place by opening a new browser window to get the AdCritter tracking code you will need.

Step 5: Open a new browser window, login to AdCritter and navigate to the Tracking section.

Step 6: Copy the ‘Site-wide Code Snippet’ to the clipboard.

Step 7: Switch back to the window with the Shopify code and paste the code snippet just above the closing body element.

Step 8: Click Save in the upper right to save this code to your Shopify store.Screenshot_11-5-21_at_1.54.23_PM.png

Adding conversion tracking to your Shopify 'order status page'

You can use conversion tracking to track when your customers visit your checkout and how often they make a purchase. Conversion tracking can help you learn more about purchasing trends on your store, like average order value and total sales per product.

This is an advanced tutorial and is not supported by Shopify. Knowledge of web design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid is required. We suggest hiring a Shopify expert if you are not comfortable proceeding with the following tutorial.

Step 1: From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout.

Step 2: Scroll down to the Additional scripts text box.

Step 3: Open a new browser window, login to AdCritter and navigate to the Tracking section.

Step 4: Copy the ‘Conversion Page Code Snippet’ to the clipboard.

Step 5: Switch back to the Shopify window and paste the code into the additional scripts.

Step 6: Click Save in the lower right of the screen to save this code to your Shopify store.

That’s it! You are all done.
